It’s been one year since the birth of fourth child and as I reflect on my pregnancy and labor, I am so grateful for the care I received. From the time I first met Shannon I felt very comfortable around her which is so important when seeking a midwife. During my appointments I felt like I was chatting with a friend rather than reporting to a doctor. Shannon was eager to listen to my concerns, my excitement and even my complaints. The day labor came she was there to encourage me and made sure my baby was doing well. I remember every so often she would come ask me if she could check the baby’s hear rate. How nice to be asked instead of being constantly monitored by an uncomfortable belt attached to a machine! I remember having a hard time going through transition and I had my eyes shut. I opened them for just a second and Shannon was right there and she looked me in the eye and said, “you can do it!” Just a few minutes later Ivy May was born into this world weighing 6lbs. 4oz. That day the Lord blessed me with a beautiful sweet girl but I also gained a friend! Courtney, Pearland, mother of Ivy born on May 19, 2011
