Glaciers in Iceland

First Impressions

We had the opportunity to go to Iceland three years ago, and it was a truly awe inspiring experience. There are many times in my life that I am amazed by our world, but Iceland brought that awe inspiring amazement in over drive. So many times, I could not believe what I was seeing! Nothing was more true than when we were on the road in Iceland, entering the glacier area.

A necessary selfie with the glaciers.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon was on our route on our second day of seven days venturing around Iceland on the Ring Road. I had been excited about getting this opportunity to see a glacier live and in person, but there was no preparation that could have prepared me for how awe struck I was to be there.

More amazing pictures from the coast line.

We pulled in, and immediately could see the glacier lagoon front and center. We had just missed a tour time, so had plenty of time to explore the area and take in our surroundings.

One of the glaciers from our boat.

To set the stage, it was 40 degrees, rainy, and gloomy. It was so cold with that combo, and being front and center with glaciers! At one point, we warmed back up in our rental car while waiting for our tour time, it was that cold!

Holding a crazy old block of ice!

Soon we loaded on to our tour boat, and were taken out into the lagoon to get up close and personal with the glaciers. As we slowly moved closer to them, they became larger than life and incredible to get so close to.

Getting real up close and personal with the glaciers during our boat tour.

The tour guide got a chunk of thousands year old ice and passed it around, and it was incredible to think of this amazing creation being around for so many centuries. What an amazing world we live in!

This is one of my favorite pictures of myself on this trip. You can tell it is cold and wet, and yet I am so happy and in awe. It was incredible!

It was so cold, and I was so soaked, but it is hands down my top favorite experience in Iceland, and one of my favorite travel experiences I have had. if you ever have the opportunity to visit Iceland, it is worth a visit, and worth a visit to this amazing glacier lagoon.
